Yohimbe Bark Extract

2009 July 26

Yohimbe Bark Extract yields the active ingredient yohimbine.  Yohimbine proves moderately effective in treating several conditions.

DRY MOUTH
Studies have shown that yohimbine is able to increase saliva production in both animals and humans.  Based on these studies, yohimbine has been used as a treatment for dry mouth caused by a variety of reasons.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION
Concentrated forms of yohimbine have been used as a prescription to treat erectile and orgasmic dysfunction.  Although the smaller amounts of the active ingredient yohimbine present in yohimbe bark extract have not been proven to have a SIGNIFICANT effect on erectile dysfunction, many users have reported positive benefits.

LIBIDO (WOMEN)
Yohimbine has been proposed to increase female libido; however, more research is needed before a strong recommendation can be made for its effects in this area.

NERVOUS SYSTEM DYSFUNCTION
It is speculated that yohimbine may improve orthostatic hypotension (the lowering of blood pressure with standing) as well as other symptoms of autonomic nervous system dysfunction.

SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION DUE TO SSRI ANTI-DEPRESSANTS
A prescription form of yohimbe has been used to treat sexual dysfunction due to ssri anti-depressants.  Yohimbe Bark Extract is theorized to have the same effect.

WEIGHT LOSS AID
Yohimbine can cause a significant increase in the release of noradrenalin which stimulates the nervous system, raises core temperature, and causes the body to mobilize body fat for fuel.

DOSING PROTOCOL:

The concentration of yohimbine varies with products.  Anywhere from 10mg to 50mg a day is recommended by most companies.  It is not advised to exceed 50mg of the active ingredient unless directed by a physician.  Experiment with doses to find what works best for you.
