Salmon- Omega-3’s
Salmon is considered a super food due to its content of the fatty acid omega-3. Studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids help support and maintain a healthy heart. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends to consume fatty fish such as salmon two times a week for the essential fatty acids it provides. Salmon is packed with protein and iron and is low in calories and saturated fat.
There are many ways to prepare salmon. It can be grilled, baked, and even steamed. Salmon can be used in fresh salads, salsas, quesadillas and much more. If you happen to not like salmon you can eat other fish that are also rich in essential omega-3 fatty acids. Herring, sardines, lake trout, albacore tuna and mackerels are some other fish that contains high amounts of the heart healthy fatty acids. Although mercury is known to accumulate in fish, many experts explain that eating fish containing omega-3 twice a week will far outweigh any negative risks.
